Falck in the Community
Opening the Doors to Our New San Diego Central Hub
The new San Diego Central Hub opened its doors last month as a purpose-built space designed to support our crews, strengthen operations and enhance the care we provide to the communities we serve.
By creating a centralized space for collaboration, training and operational coordination, we are strengthening our ability to meet the needs of the community today and into the future.
The grand opening celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a special City Council proclamation presented by Councilmember Marni von Wilpert, recognizing the important role our teams play in serving the region.
We look forward to the opportunities ahead as we continue advancing care, teamwork and service across San Diego.
Students Explore Careers in EMS at High Tech High
High Tech High students recently received a firsthand look at careers in EMS during a visit from our Falck team, highlighting the vital role first responders play in the community.
Emergency medical technician (EMT) Amy shared her experiences responding to 911 calls, caring for patients and assisting people during their most urgent moments.
San Diego Color Guard Takes Part in Local Baseball Tradition
Our San Diego Color Guard was honored to present the Colors at North City Youth Baseball’s 100-Inning Game, joining players, families and neighbors for a longstanding community tradition rooted in local pride.
Participation in events like this reflects a commitment to supporting the community beyond emergency response and staying closely connected with the neighborhoods served. It is an opportunity to engage with residents in meaningful, positive settings outside of operational duties.
Fire Station 39 Welcomes Tierrasanta Community
Medic 39 joined the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department at Fire Station 39 in welcoming neighbors and partners for a community open house celebrating the “Firehouse Facelift” fundraising initiative.
The event gave community members the chance to connect with local firefighters and EMS personnel, explore the station and learn more about the vital work being done behind the scenes to support emergency response efforts in Tierrasanta.
Celebrating the Support Systems Behind EMS
EMS Week Family Night brought our team together to celebrate the people and families who make this work possible every day.
The evening featured a bowling event, with Jorden from People and Culture and Logan, son of Paramedic Andrea, earning top honors in the adult and youth divisions.
The celebration served as a meaningful reminder that EMS Week is not only about recognizing the professionals who answer the call, but also the families and support systems who stand behind them.
Welcoming the Newest Member of the Falck Family
This EMS Week, we had a special new addition join the celebration: baby Raphael V, son of Falck Paramedic Raphael IV.
Raphael represents the latest generation in a family deeply rooted in emergency response. His grandfather, Ralph III, serves as a San Diego firefighter-paramedic and his great-grandfather, Ralph II, is a retired San Diego firefighter, continuing a proud legacy of public service across generations.
We extend our congratulations to the new parents and are proud to welcome baby Raphael into the wider Falck family.
A Feathered Visitor Joins Medical Standby at Local Event
An unexpected feathered visitor stopped by while our crew was on medical standby at a local community event.
A falcon briefly landed nearby, keeping a close eye on the action as we helped keep attendees safe throughout the day. The sighting felt especially fitting for our team, as a falcon appears on every Falck ambulance and serves as a symbol of our organization.
Falck is named for founder Sophus Falck, whose surname comes from the Danish word for falcon, making the unexpected visit especially meaningful for our team. The encounter offered a unique connection to the heritage behind the Falck name.
Sometimes community standby comes with a little extra company. For a brief moment, it seemed the original Falck mascot had stopped by to check in on the crew.
Night Crew Appreciation BBQ
A special appreciation BBQ was held for our hardworking night crews who continue to protect the community while the rest of San Diego sleeps. These teams operate 24/7, always ready to respond to emergencies and provide critical care when it is needed most.
The evening was a chance to recognize their dedication, resilience and commitment to serving the community through every hour of the day.
Employee Spotlight
Recognized for Bravery and Lifesaving Service
San Diego Field Supervisors Jon and Steve were honored with the Medal of Valor Award at the 2025 California EMS Awards in Napa.
The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate courage and take personal risk while performing life-saving actions.
Their decisive actions during a life-threatening incident not only saved lives but also exemplified the highest standards of professionalism, bravery and service.
We take immense pride in Jon and Steve for their unwavering dedication to the communities we serve and for embodying the very essence of EMS.
Members of the Falck Honor Guard were also present at the ceremony, standing in tribute to these remarkable professionals and their commitment every day.
